'Star Trek 3' Producer Puts the Brakes on J.J. Abrams Return News

We knew something seemed a little fishy when Zachary Quinto boldly announced (read: casually said at some film fest, setting us all into an unintended tizzy) that he expected "Star Trek 3" to begin filming next year with "Star Trek" and "Star Trek Into Darkness" director J.J. Abrams returning to his captaining station behind the lens.

'Cause everyone with an ounce of nerd cred knows that Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII" is going into production in January, and that's totally not some kinda Joss Whedon-esque pocket project he can bang out on the side in two weeks. That's a year's commitment, if not more.

So, we're not surprised that producer Bob Orci, when asked about the "news," calmly laid the smack down on that chatter, essentially telling Zap2it that the words were incredibly premature and unfounded.

"I'd love to have J.J. back," he said. "We're still talking to Paramount about what the scheduling might be and if we can all do it together again, but yeah I read that too and I was like, 'Whoa, does he know something I don't? I'd better call him.' He owes me a call."

Ruh roh! Sounds like Spock-o might be in for a 'lil tsk-tsking ... even if it was just some innocent wishful thinking on his part.
